Volkswagen showed a photo of the new Amarok in disguise

Volkswagen

Volkswagen has distributed the first photos of a real sample of the Amarok frame off-road pickup truck of the promising second generation. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to evaluate the exterior of the car from them, since the body is carefully pasted over with a camouflage film.

Recall that the new Amarok is being created as part of Volkswagen’s cooperation with Ford Motor, therefore it relies on the platform of the mid-size Ford Ranger T6 and will be unified with it in terms of frame, chassis, internal and external cab panels, suspensions and units. In the pictures you can see that the VW prototype repeats the doorways, windows and general proportions of the Ford Ranger, however, the Volkswagen has an original plumage - its own block headlights and a radiator grille are visible through the film. It is expected that the design of the front end will be worked out according to the canons of the modern corporate identity of Volkswagen.

Some technical parameters of the promising model have also been made public. The overall length, width and height of the next Amarok are 5350, 1910 and 1880 mm, respectively, the wheelbase is 3220 mm. Thus, relative to the car of the first generation, it is 96 mm longer, 34 mm narrower and 2 mm higher, the wheelbase of the car of the second generation is 125 mm longer than that of the first.

The load capacity of the upcoming novelty is 1200 kg, the maximum weight of the towed trailer is 3500 kg. It is alleged that Amarok II will be produced not only with a two-row four-door cab, but also with a single two-door. For consumers on the European continent, three drive options will be offered - rear, plug-in all-wheel drive or permanent all-wheel drive. Wheel sizes vary from 17 to 21 inches.

The car will be offered in five configurations: Base, Life, Style, Panamericana and Aventura. The last two are planned to be positioned as a premium class, one of the versions will be "road", the other - for extreme off-road.

The most expensive versions will receive up to 30 driver assistance functions, matrix LED headlights, and a high-quality Harman Kardon audio system. The media complex with a screen diagonal of 10.1 to 12 inches will work on the Ford SYNC4 system. The instrument panel is only digital, with a dimension of 8 inches.

Production of the model will start at the end of 2022 at the plant in Pretoria, South Africa. Moreover, Amarok of the first generation is also planned to be produced - until demand is exhausted. Recall that the first Amarok is made in Pacheco, Argentina, it is still popular in South America and Africa.
