Volkswagen continues to actively expand its range of clean electric vehicles under the ID sub-brand. The German concern held the world premiere of the ID.7 full-size liftback, the novelty was presented simultaneously in specifications for China, the European Union and the United States. The “seven” will be produced in parallel in Germany and China, and in the Celestial Empire they will offer a car with the prefix Vizzion in the title.

ID.7 is built on the modular MEB platform, the model is called the flagship of the Volkswagen electric range.

The overall length, width and height of the "seven" are 4956, 1862 and 1537 mm, respectively, the wheelbase is 2965 mm. In terms of length, width and wheelbase, this electric car is comparable to the Tesla Model S, while being noticeably larger in height.

Volkswagen ID.7 has a squat, streamlined shape typical of “electric cars” with a short nose and a sloping roofline smoothly turning into the trunk. The ID.7’s wavy sidewall stamping, tapered headlights and taillights echo the ID.Aero sedan introduced in June 2022, which is offered only in China. The aerodynamic drag coefficient Cx for the "seven" is 0.23, which is one of the best indicators among modern mass-produced cars.

The new electric liftback is planned to be produced in two motor versions. The basic one implies one engine on the rear axle and, accordingly, rear-wheel drive. The more expensive option is two motors, one per axle, respectively, an AWD transmission. Characteristics will be adapted to a specific sales region. So, in the version for North America and the European Union, the 2WD version has an output of 210 kW (285 hp), and in the specification for China - 150 kW (204 hp). The power of the twin-engine version has not yet been disclosed.

For the Chinese ID.7 Vizzion, they will offer batteries with a capacity of 77 or 85 kWh, the power reserve on one full charge is 600-700 km. The German ID.7 is planned to be sold in the EU with 85 or 91 kWh battery packs, and a range of up to 700 km.

The batteries of the car can withstand recharging from a station with a capacity of up to 200 kW, the energy reserve from 10 to 80% can be replenished in only 30 minutes.

At the same time, Volkswagen presented the Volkswagen ID.Next concept car in China, a harbinger of the future compact mass-produced electric car with a squat liftback body and a sporty exterior. In production, the car is likely to compete with the Tesla Model 3. No technical details are currently available.

In Germany, the production of ID.7 is being deployed at the plant in Emden, in China - at the facilities of the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture. ID.Next is planned to be made in China at the SAIC-Volkswagen site.
