Volkswagen will return to the control buttons for secondary functions on the steering wheel, abandoning the touch panels that came to replace them. The head of the company, Thomas Schaeffer, spoke about this on one of his pages on social networks.
According to the top manager, the company decided to return the physical buttons on the steering wheel due to regular complaints from the owners of Volkswagen cars of recent years of production for unintuitiveness and complicated control over the execution of commands given through touch panels.
Volkswagen began to introduce touch panels on steering wheel spokes as part of the course towards digitalization and automation of car control. It was assumed that in the era of personal mobile electronics, such a change would be received favorably by consumers, as a phenomenon of technological progress. However, the know-how did not find understanding among users due to impracticality.
