Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz are not against the full transition to electric vehicles

Volkswagen

The plan promoted by the European Parliament as part of the fight against the greenhouse effect to completely ban the sale of ICE cars in the European Union from 2035 has found formal support from at least two of the region's leading automakers, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz.

However, the positions of the two companies differ. If Mercedes-Benz cheerfully reports that it is ready to completely stop selling cars with gasoline and diesel engines in the EU countries by 2031, then Volkswagen is ready to leave only electric cars in the European model line by 2035, subject to increasing the pace of building the necessary infrastructure.

Meanwhile, against the backdrop of the most acute energy crisis that has broken out in the EU, the idea of abandoning cars with internal combustion engines promoted by European bureaucrats has lost the support of the governments of the two largest countries - members of the union: Germany and France, and the plan already approved by the European Parliament, with a high probability, will not pass the approval stage by the EU member states.
