Launched in late 2019, the ID.3, the first mass-produced Volkswagen originally designed as an electric vehicle, will get a sporty version. It was announced back in October 2019 by Frank Walsh, today new information has appeared on the promising sports variant ID.3.
According to the British edition of Autocar, Volkswagen is currently discussing a sporty modification of the ID.3 R. “This is what we are looking at. I like this idea, but we have to decide if the market is ready to accept such a model,” Frank said in a new interview.
In 2019, foreign colleagues claimed that the ID.3 R sports modification could get all-wheel drive, and there was also information that such a version would be assigned the GTX index. But now Volkswagen management seems to have changed its plans. “ID.3 may get all-wheel drive, but it is unlikely that he will get it in the first generation. There will be no GTX modification, but we still have to approve the rear-wheel drive R variant,” added Frank Walsh.
Volkswagen ID.3 is equipped with a 200-horsepower electric motor that drives the rear wheels. ID.3 R, according to foreign colleagues, will be equipped with a 300-horsepower engine.
But one should not expect the imminent debut of a sports modification: according to colleagues, this will happen no earlier than 2024, since the brand's specialists need to decide which of the technologies implemented on the ID.R prototype can be applied in production cars.
