The low-cost Volkswagen Virtus sedan, produced since 2018, has undergone a comprehensive modernization. The presentation of the updated car was held in India - it is this country that will receive it first.
Here it should be noted that until now Virtus was produced only in Latin America - in Brazil and Argentina. There was no right-hand drive version of this model in principle. In India, the updated Virtus will replace the Vento model, which is a local version of the Polo A05 sedan (produced in Russia in 2010-2020).
The exterior of Virtus with the update was "fitted" to the latest iteration of the Volkswagen corporate identity - narrower LED headlights, "discolored" taillights were used, the edge-stamping on the hood and front fenders became more pronounced. Regarding the 2018 model car, the front fenders, hood, lighting equipment, radiator grille, and both bumpers are completely new. The rest of the body remained untouched.
The overall length, width, height of the Virtus in the Indian specification are 4561, 1752 and 1507 mm, respectively, the wheelbase is 2651 mm, the trunk volume is 521 liters. Compared to the Latin American model, the length is increased by 79 mm, the height is increased by 35 mm.
The front panel of the interior of the Indian Virtus repeats that of the Latin American car - of course, adjusted for the fact that it is reflected horizontally, under the right-hand drive.
The equipment of the novelty includes a digital instrument panel with a diagonal of 10 inches, a media system with an 8-inch screen, an audio system with 8 speakers, climate control, six airbags, in expensive trim levels there are also ventilated front seats, a panoramic roof, ambient lighting, a light sensor and rain.
The engine range of the car consists of 1.0 and 1.5 liter petrol turbo units. The first develops 115 hp. power and 175 Nm of torque, it is aggregated with a 6-speed "mechanics" or "automatic". The second motor produces 150 hp. and 250 Nm, combined with a 7-speed DSG preselective “robot”. The design of the sedan is based on the modular platform MQB-A0. Drive — only the front.
Restyling will reach the Latin American Virtus within a few months.
Production and sales of the Volkswagen Virtus in India will start in the summer of 2022, with prices starting at around $12,000-14,000.
