Tesla to cut 10% of its staff due to 'bad feeling'

Tesla

American electric car manufacturer Tesla plans to lay off 10% of its employees in the near future. The company's staff at all plants and branches employs about 100 thousand people, thus, we are talking about the reduction of 10 thousand employees.

According to Reuters, Tesla CEO Elon Musk wrote in an internal letter to his subordinates that at the same time the company would stop hiring new staff. Musk explained the reason simply: “I have a very bad feeling about the state of the world economy.”

Recall that in the first quarter of 2022, Tesla sold cars for a total of $16.86 billion, which is 87% more than in January-March 2021. The company's gross profit was $5.54 billion, up 32.9%. It is expected that the results of the second quarter (ends on June 30) will be much more modest - in particular, due to the forced long shutdown of the company's car plant in Shanghai (China).
