The Tesla Model Y compact crossover took the No. 1 position in the ranking of the best-selling cars in the world - in the first quarter of 2023, it overtook the Japanese Toyota Corolla, equipped with an internal combustion engine.
According to the JATO Dynamics agency, in January-March, 267,200 Model Y and 256,400 Corolla were sold in the world, that is, the difference between the models is 10,800 units. It is noted that this is, in principle, the first time that a pure electric car has taken the first line in the top of the most popular models in the world. The third position in the cut for the first quarter was occupied by the Toyota Hilux frame pickup (214,700 vehicles).
Tesla Model Y sales growth compared to January-March 2022 amounted to 69%. The model is especially popular in the USA and China. The electric crossover is produced in parallel at two factories in the USA, as well as in Germany and China.
