The American company Tesla will decide on the construction of another plant for the production of electric vehicles by the end of the year, its potential location is India. The firm's CEO, Elon Musk, confirmed Tesla's "absolute" interest in doing business in the Asian country, writes HT Auto.
Last week, Tesla executives held talks with Indian officials. India's Information Technology and Electronics Minister Rajiv Chandrasekhar said at the meeting that his country really wants an American company to invest in Indian industry and build its own enterprises.
“India is now a trusted partner in the electric vehicle manufacturing and supply chain,” said Chandrasekhar.
Earlier it became known that representatives of Tesla and the Indian authorities discussed local legislation, on which the implementation of the project depends. The future plant should produce electric vehicles not only for the Indian market, but also for export.
A year earlier, Tesla had unsuccessfully tried to persuade Delhi to lower the extremely high taxes on cars imported into the country in order to test the interest of local car enthusiasts in their products.
Now Tesla has four full-fledged factories for the production of electric vehicles - in California and Texas (USA), Shanghai (China) and Grünheide (Germany). Batteries for electric vehicles are manufactured at Gigafactory 1 in Nevada (USA), Gigafactory 4 in Grünheide (Germany) and Gigafactory 5 in Texas (USA). There is also a site in the Netherlands, where electric vehicles are assembled for the European market.
