Tesla opens its first full-cycle European car plant in Germany

Tesla

On March 22, the American Tesla officially launched production at the European car plant, which is located in Grünheide, 40 km east of Berlin. Its construction took exactly two years and required an investment of five billion euros.

The opening of the enterprise took place in a solemn atmosphere with the participation of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Yesterday, the first commercial electric car, the Model Y crossover, rolled off the assembly line.

The production complex called Gigafactory Tesla, in addition to its own full-cycle car factory (with welding and body painting), includes an enterprise for assembling traction lithium-ion batteries. In Germany, up to 500,000 Teslas and up to 50 GWh of batteries will be produced annually. The estimated number of staff is 12 thousand people.

However, the plant will gradually reach its maximum performance, so in 2022 it is planned to assemble 54 thousand cars.

Thus, now Tesla has three full-fledged plants for the production of electric vehicles - in addition to the new one in Germany, these are enterprises in California (USA) and Shanghai (China). Gigafactory 1 in Nevada specializes in batteries, Gigafactory 2 in New York specializes in solar panels, they are not related to the production of vehicles. There is also a site in the Netherlands where electric vehicles are assembled for the European market, but it will obviously be closed now as unnecessary.
