The incident took place on the evening of May 17 in Snohomish County, north of Seattle.
According to NBC News, the incident occurred at a time when the patrol stopped to help a vehicle that got into another accident. The police car stood with its beacons turned on and partially blocked the traffic lane, but the 2015 Tesla Model S simply “did not see” it. As a result of the collision, the Ford Explorer patrol received damage to the left side of the body, and the front left wheel was also torn out of it. At the moment, the owner of the Model S has been fined, as the manual for the electric vehicle instructs the driver to be ready to take control at any second if the company's Autopilot level 2 autonomous driving system cannot cope with its duties. The cause of the accident will be investigated.
