Tesla Model S on autopilot crashed into police Ford Explorer

Tesla

In the US, there was another resonant accident involving a Tesla electric car: Model S drove into a parked police Ford Explorer, Tesla's driver claims that the car was moving on autopilot and it was his mistake that led to the accident. The incident took place on the evening of May 17 in Snohomish County, north of Seattle.

According to NBC News, the incident occurred at a time when the patrol stopped to help a vehicle that got into another accident. The police car stood with its beacons turned on and partially blocked the traffic lane, but the 2015 Tesla Model S simply “did not see” it. As a result of the collision, the Ford Explorer patrol received damage to the left side of the body, and the front left wheel was also torn out of it. Photos of the electric car have not yet been published.

At the moment, the owner of the Model S has been fined, as the manual for the electric vehicle instructs the driver to be ready to take control at any second if the company's Autopilot level 2 autonomous driving system cannot cope with its duties. The cause of the accident will be investigated.

Recall that last week, regulatory authorities in the United States published a preliminary report on the sensational car accident with Tesla, which occurred on April 17 north of Houston and claimed the lives of two people. The Tesla Model S P100D liftback was completely destroyed and burned down, on the day of the accident, the traffic police and the media suggested that the failure of the autopilot system was the cause, but the information has not yet been confirmed, the end will be put only when the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigators will try to recover the data of the on-board electronics.
