Tesla began selling locally assembled Model Y crossovers in China on January 18. They became the second model of the brand, the release of which was launched at the company's Shanghai site (Gigafactory 3), the first was the Model 3 compact sedan.
In China, the basic version of Model Y costs from 339,900 yuan. For the top-end Performance package, the manufacturer asks for 369,900 yuan.
The standard configuration for the Chinese is considered to be the Long Range version (the Standard Range with a smaller battery is also sold in the USA) with a power reserve of 594 km. Such an electric car is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds. The maximum speed is 217 km/h.
In the Performance version, the 0-100 km/h sprint takes just 3.7 seconds, while the top speed rises to 241 km/h. Plus, there are 21-inch alloy wheels, upgraded brakes and a carbon fiber spoiler.
In November 2020, the Ministry of Industry and Informatization of the PRC included domestically produced Model Y electric vehicles in an updated list of alternative energy vehicle models that are covered by the state subsidy program, which provides for exemption from purchase tax.
Online orders for Model Y assembled in China began to be accepted in early January, and in just ten hours the number of applications exceeded 100,000. The plan for local production for the whole of 2021 was originally 250,000 Model Y, but given the rush demand, it may be revised.
The Tesla Gigafactory 3 plant in Shanghai was built and put into operation in 2019.
Previously, Tesla Model Y was produced only at the company's factory in Fremont (USA).
Recall that the Model Y crossover debuted in January 2020, it is built on the basis of the Model 3 sedan and is 75% unified with it.
