Japanese manufacturers Toyota Motor and Subaru intend to strengthen cooperation in the development of electric vehicles: their joint plans include the release of an all-new electric crossover to the Japanese market in 2025. This is reported by Kyodo News, citing sources within the companies.
A promising model will be created on a modified base of the joint Toyota bZ4X / Subaru Solterra electric crossovers produced today. The new car will have a longer range and a more spacious trunk.
In addition, the companies are considering working together on another vehicle for North America and other regions.
Such plans are part of Toyota's efforts to increase the production of electric vehicles under new company president Koji Sato. The Japanese auto giant has decided to use the development and production capabilities of Subaru, in which Toyota has a stake of about 20 percent, to catch up with its competitors in the US and Europe, sources said.
