Subaru is in the process of registering a new STe trademark, Motor1.com writes with reference to a data upload from the German Patent Office.
The Japanese company submitted an application on March 13, 2023, and on March 23, the agency began processing it.
The King Drive reports that the STe sub-brand will apply exclusively to electric vehicles. Hybrids will not be released with this prefix in the title. Presumably, the abbreviation STe marks sports electric vehicles.
Motor1 suggests that STe could replace the former STI sports sub-brand. A year ago, representatives of the Japanese company said that they did not plan to release a new WRX STI, although they were exploring the possibility of releasing a successor to such a version, incl. with electrified installation.
Currently, there is only one serial electric car in the Subaru range - the Subaru Solterra crossover. But the company plans to develop this direction and in the United States (the main export market) by 2025 will introduce several new electric cars.
In 2022, the company unveiled the concept STI E-RA, an electric racing car with four engines developed by Yamaha Motor. Their total power is 800 kW (1088 hp). Since each wheel is driven by a separate motor, thrust vector control is maintained. Responsible for power is a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 60 kWh, the length of the car is 5010 mm, and the weight is 1690 kg.
