147,000 Daihatsu recalled due to engine problems

Subaru

Daihatsu Motor, part of Toyota Motor, has issued a recall of 147,042 vehicles in Japan due to a high risk of sudden engine failure.

The service campaign covers a total of 18 Daihatsu, Toyota and Subaru models produced between May 9 and September 3, 2019. These are Daihatsu models - Move, Cast, Mira eS, Mira Tocot, Tanto, Wake, Hijet Caddy, Move Canvas, Copen, Hijet Truck; Toyota - Joy, Pixis Epoch, Pixis Mega, Pixis Truck; Subaru - Stella, Pleo Plus, Chiffon and Sambar Truck.

The defect is described as follows: due to non-compliance with the process of casting the impeller of the fuel pump during operation, the part swells and deforms, as a result, the fuel pump fails. In the worst case, the engine may stall while driving - this creates safety risks.

These vehicles will have their fuel pumps replaced free of charge. At the moment, 147 cases of a defect have been recorded - fortunately, there were no victims because of it.
