Americans published a car reliability rating: Toyota is no longer the leader

Porsche

The American analytical firm J.D. Power on February 10 published the latest 2022 US Vehicle Dependability Study by brand. The study covers only those cars that are officially sold in the US market.

The methodology included a survey of almost 30,000 car owners of the 2019 model year.

The key indicator is the number of problems encountered per 100 vehicles (PP100). The lower it is, the higher the reliability of the machine. Note that the rating does not take into account objective data on breakdowns, it is based only on a survey of owners, that is, on a subjective opinion.

The authors of the study noted that mass brands had an average problem index of 190, while premium brands had a higher score of 204. This is due to the presence in expensive cars of more electronics and auxiliary systems that can fail.

The most widespread problems are still associated with media systems, they account for an average of 51.9 PP100 (that is, about a quarter of complaints). Usually voice recognition systems, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, Bluetooth errors, and so on are to blame.

The leader in the 2022 ranking was Kia, which displaced Lexus from the top (it fell five lines). Second place went to Buick, bronze went to Hyundai. The top 10 also included Genesis, Toyota, Lexus, Porsche, Dodge, Cadillac and Chevrolet.

The three most unreliable are Land Rover, Ram and Volvo.

Also, according to the results of the survey, the most reliable models in different market segments were identified:
