Concern Stellantis on February 24 introduced the updated mid-size Peugeot 508 family of the second generation. This range includes liftback, station wagon (SW) and sedan (L). While the modernization has touched only the first two bodies, the update will come to the sedan produced exclusively in China later.
Outside, the "five hundred and eighth" refreshed the design of the front and rear parts of the body. The front bumper group has become completely different - the radiator grille is enlarged in area and has a variable width pattern. The elements of the daytime running lights of the L-shaped headlights were “enlarged”, while the dipped and main beam blocks, on the contrary, became smaller in size. DRLs form a light marker of three vertical stripes, which should evoke associations with a claw mark. A new Peugeot emblem has been applied - a massive shield with the image of a lion's head. Behind both the liftback and the station wagon there are lights with modified graphics.
All steel parts remain the same, which is understandable: stamping equipment is expensive, and the Peugeot 508 is not a very marginal model.
Also, the brand's designers have developed a new style of branded alloy wheels, their dimensions vary from 17 to 20 inches, depending on the configuration.
Inside, there is an improved media system screen (diagonal 10 inches) and a new knob for an 8-speed “automatic”.
The model is equipped with a high-resolution video camera, on the data from which the parking assistant, a traffic sign recognition system, and lane control work. As before, the equipment includes adaptive cruise control with the function of automatic movement in traffic jams.
In the European Union, the range of engines of the updated 508 / 508 SW includes petrol and diesel turbo engines. The first has a volume of 1.2 liters and a power of 131 hp, the second - 1.5 liters and 130 hp. Three hybrids are also offered with the possibility of recharging the battery from an external network. The standard one has a 1.6-liter gasoline engine, an electric motor and an 8-speed automatic transmission, power is 180 hp. One step higher - boosted to 225 hp. option. The top modification of the PSE is a 1.6-liter gasoline engine + 8 automatic transmission + two electric motors (one per axle), power - 360 hp. The PSE has four-wheel drive, the rest have front-wheel drive.
For developing countries, they will continue to produce a gasoline version with a 218-horsepower 1.6-liter turbo.
Sales of the updated Peugeot 508 in the EU will start at the end of the summer of 2023.
Recall that the current generation model has been produced since 2018.
