The new Peugeot 308: longer, lower and "hybrid"

Peugeot

Concern Stellantis presented the new, third generation Peugeot 308 five-door. In terms of style, the car continues the ideas of its predecessor, but in technology it has gone far ahead.

Eight years have passed since the release of the previous 308, Peugeot's corporate identity has changed markedly. The French brand's cars now sport a larger dotted front grille, saber-toothed daytime running lights and even a different aggressive lion logo.

The new hatch is built on the third generation of the EMP2 platform. The wheelbase increased immediately by 55 mm (up to 2675 mm), the overall length - by 110 mm (up to 4360 mm), the height decreased by 22 mm (up to 1440 mm). This changed the proportions and made the silhouette more sporty.

Already in the database, fully LED optics are provided, and in the GT and GT Premium trim levels - Peugeot Matrix LED headlights.

The interior, with its signature i-Cockpit digital gauge sticking out above the steering wheel, is familiar from the latest Peugeot innovations. In the GT version, the toolbar has a 3D effect. In the center is a 10-inch media system screen. The automatic transmission selector is made in the form of a miniature joystick: a similar solution was previously tried on by the Volkswagen Golf 8, which is a key competitor of the 308.

For the hatchback, a 1.2-liter petrol turbo engine (110 or 130 hp) and a 1.5-liter diesel (130 hp) will be available. Transmissions - "mechanics" or eight-speed "automatic". Also, two hybrid versions with support for charging from a wall outlet will immediately enter the market. The base model is the Hybrid 180 e-EAT8 with a 150-horsepower internal combustion engine, the older one with 180-horsepower. The power of the electric motor in both cases is 110 hp, the total output is 180 or 225 hp. The battery with a capacity of 12.4 kWh provides a range of 60 km on the WLTP cycle.

European sales of the new Peugeot 308 will begin in the second half of the year. Prices have not yet been announced.
