Peugeot is not going to release a sports version of the new generation 308 hatchback, because there are no commercial prospects for it. Jerome Micheron, vice president of the brand, told Top Gear about this.

According to him, the demand for cars of this class is now small, and market conditions do not allow the Stellantis concern (formed this year by the merger of FCA and PSA) to spend money on the development of fast front-wheel drive cars. Recall that the old Peugeot 308 GTI with a 1.6 turbo engine with a capacity of 263 hp. discontinued in the summer of 2020.

The new generation of the 308th was presented on March 18, the model is based on the EMP2 modular platform, which provides for the installation of hybrid power systems. The range of engines consists of compact 1.2 turbo engines (110 and 130 hp), a 1.5-liter turbodiesel (130 hp), as well as two rechargeable hybrid versions - 180 and 225 hp, power plants more power, obviously, "three hundred and eighth" in the near future is not allowed.

Peugeot, if there is demand, could develop a sports modification of the hatchback. In the range of the brand, for example, there is a plug-in version of the 508 Sport Engineered with 360 hp, but in Germany it is priced at 66,640 euros, which is 21,440 euros more than the base 508 costs.
