Peugeot has released a frame pickup truck with a brutal design

Peugeot

The French Peugeot has added a new model to its range - the frame off-road pickup Landtrek, created in close cooperation with the Chinese company Changan.

The Landtrek is based on the Changan Kaicene F70 introduced in 2019, which was developed by a China-based joint venture between PSA Peugeot-Citroen and Changan Automobile. F70 and Landtrek are unified in terms of frame platform, units and bodywork. Outside, the “Frenchman” is distinguished by the design of the front end in the corporate style of Peugeot, other taillights and original design discs. In terms of body style, the car looks like a completely organic part of the brand line, since the design of the joint pickup truck was originally created specifically for Peugeot (it is logical: Changang does not have its own recognizable visual features).

Landtrek will be sold in three versions: with double-row and single cabs, as well as in the version with a single cab without a cargo platform (“bare” chassis). The length of the Landtrek body reaches 5330 or 5390 mm, depending on the modification, the carrying capacity is 1 or 1.2 tons. The car can tow a trailer weighing 3.5 tons. There will be two pickup configurations - Workhorse (the most simplified "workhorse") and Multipurpose (richer option).

Landtrek has unpainted bumpers, simple optics and a minimum of equipment as standard. However, in the top versions, the pickup truck will be equipped with dual-zone climate control, a 10-inch multimedia system, LED optics, six airbags, systems for stabilizing and keeping the car in the lane.

The interior of the Peugeot Landtrek differs from the Changan Kaicen F70 only in logos and a color palette, since it was also created according to the Peugeot patterns. The architecture, the shape of the deflectors, the mutual arrangement of elements, the steering wheel with a truncated rim are made according to the canons of the Peugeot iCockpit ergonomic concept. The controls are deliberately compact, and the control buttons for secondary functions are easily accessible to the driver. The equipment has a digital instrument cluster and a tablet display of the media system.

The Peugeot Landtrek engine range consists of four units - petrol and three diesel. The gasoline engine is a 2.4-liter turbo Mitsubishi 4K22D4T with a capacity of 218 hp. and a torque of 320 Nm. Diesel: 1) Isuzu E4D25Q5A - 2.5 l, 129 hp, 320 Nm, 2) Isuzu E4D25Q6A - 2.5 l, 150 hp, 360 Nm, 3) Yunnei Power D20TCIE - 1.9 l, 150 HP, 350 Nm. Note that the D20TCIE is a licensed copy of the Isuzu RZ4E-TC engine, which is installed on the D-Max pickup truck. They work in conjunction with a 6-speed "mechanics" Getrag or with a 6-speed "automatic" Punch. All-wheel drive part-time with a connected front axle, a rear differential lock, as well as a reduction gear are responsible for the cross-country ability. A pickup truck can ford up to 600 mm, its ground clearance varies from 214 to 235 mm, depending on the modification.

The manufacturer notes that the Peugeot Landtrek prototypes were tested by severe road tests with a total length of 2 million km.

There are no plans to deliver a new pickup truck to Europe. It will only be available in developing countries. Target markets are North Africa (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Sahara, etc.) and South America.

Note that the Peugeot off-road pickup did not appear suddenly. The company has long planned to release such a model specifically for North Africa. As a palliative solution, PSA agreed back in 2017 to sell DongFeng Rich pickup trucks in the North African region under the name Peugeot Pick-Up. (DongFeng is a major shareholder of the PSA group, he owns 13.68% of the shares.) But Rich, although a solid, but outdated car, because it is a modernized version of the Nissan NP300 (D22), produced in 1997-2004.

In general, in the history of Peugeot there were the legendary passenger pickups of the 404 and 504 models, which at one time became real bestsellers in emerging markets.
