Opel Mokka second generation: range of engines revealed

Opel

Opel held a presentation of the second-generation Mokka subcompact crossover. Recall that the photo of the model and the first information about it were distributed on June 23, but now the range of engines has been revealed. The presentation of the novelty took place at the brand's headquarters in Rüsselsheim, the event was broadcast live on YouTube.

Since Opel has been owned by PSA Peugeot-Citroen since 2017, the new Mokka is built on the French CMP chassis, which previously served as the basis for Corsa and Peugeot 208 small cars, Peugeot 2008 and DS3 Crossback crossovers, as well as other models. Opel continues to consistently get rid of the platforms and units of the former owner - the General Motors concern (the previous Mokka relied on the GM Gamma II chassis).

The length of the novelty is 4155 mm, which is 125 mm less than its predecessor; the wheelbase is increased by 2 mm and reaches 2557 mm. The front overhang has been shortened by 61mm and the rear overhang by 66mm, making it easier to maneuver and park in tight spaces. The width has not changed much - 1785 mm (+10 mm). Due to the preservation of the wheelbase and a denser arrangement of units in terms of usable space in the cabin, the new Mokka is not inferior to its predecessor, even the 350-liter trunk is preserved. Body rigidity increased by 30%, curb weight reduced by 120 kg.

The design of the car is made in the new corporate style of Opel, it is characterized by laconic lines and dense volumes. The headlights are combined into one visual element with the help of a horizontal bar - this is a reference to the old Opels of the 70s: however, they had a false radiator grille between the headlights, and here it is a glossy panel behind which the adaptive cruise control radar is hidden. The horizontal composition was given the name Opel Vizor, in the future other Opels will receive the same design of the front end (vizor is translated as “helmet visor”).

The salon is called completely digital. The main thing here is the elongated Pure Panel, which combines two widescreen displays (the diagonal of the screen in front of the driver’s eyes is 12 inches). To make the motorist less distracted from the road, Opel designers have provided the most intuitive control of the system. The main functions are still activated by “physical” buttons so that you don’t have to dig into the media system menu while driving.

About the range of engines. The second-generation Mokka is the first Opel ever to be offered in parallel with both an internal combustion engine and a purely electric propulsion system from the outset. The line of gasoline engines is a 1.2-liter turbo with a capacity of 100 or 130 hp. Diesel lovers are addressed to a 1.5-liter turbo with 110 hp. and a torque of 250 Nm. All engines are combined with a 6-speed manual transmission, and an 8-speed automatic transmission is also available for the 130-horsepower gasoline engine.

The electric version is called Mokka-e, it is equipped with a 100 kW (136 hp) motor and a 50 kWh lithium-ion battery, the power reserve on one charge of such a car is enough for 324 km. Interestingly, the batteries can be charged using any type of charger - from single-phase to three-phase power of 11 kW. The battery warranty is 8 years or 160,000 km.

Regardless of the modification, the car has front-wheel drive. 4x4 transmission is not provided in principle.

In the European Union, the novelty will go on sale in early 2021. In her native Germany, prices for the model will start at 19,990 euros, for an electric version - from 32,990 euros. Taking into account local state subsidies for the purchase of electric vehicles, the cost of a “battery” car will drop to 23,420 euros.
