Opel has unveiled an updated version of the Meriva compact van. The car has become more modern in appearance and received new motors.
The main feature of the model - rear doors opening against the move - remained unchanged. There are no fundamental innovations in the design either: modified bumpers, optics and a radiator grille do not go beyond the standard restyling. Interior updates are also not revolutionary: the IntelliLink multimedia system has been improved, which is now available with a 7-inch color touch monitor, finishing materials have traditionally been updated ... The most significant changes have occurred in the technical part.
The main thing is that Meriva received a new turbodiesel: instead of the previous 1.7-liter 130-horsepower unit, a new 1.6 CDTI engine with 136 hp was registered under the hood of the model. Moreover, this is the first turbodiesel of the new line: deformed versions of this engine are promised later. In addition to the diesel engine, there are updated 1.4-liter petrol turbo engines with a capacity of 120 or 140 hp, as well as a basic atmospheric 100-horsepower version. Moreover, in the "new edition" these motors comply with the most stringent environmental standards Euro-6.
The gearboxes have also been updated: on the 5- and 6-speed manual gearboxes, the shift mechanism has become softer and clearer. And those who do not want to turn the lever on their own will be able to get a new 6-speed "automatic".
Acceptance of orders for the updated compact van will begin in November. Then they promise to publish the prices. The car will go on sale in January 2014.
