Opel has released the first information about the second generation Insignia. So far, the novelty has been declassified only in the hatchback body, which is now denoted by the phrase Grand Sport. The station wagon will be presented later, and the sedan version of the model will no longer be available.
According to the press service of Opel, the length of the new Insignia has grown compared to the outgoing model by 55 mm (up to 4897 mm), and the interior has become more spacious due to the fact that the wheelbase has increased by 92 mm. Also, the width was increased by 11 mm, while the height, on the contrary, became less by 29 mm.
The model has become noticeably more streamlined - the drag coefficient of the car was reduced to 0.26. At the same time, the curb weight also decreased by 175 kg compared to its predecessor. These measures made it possible to make the car more economical.
The exterior of the new Opel Insignia is made in the latest iteration of the brand's corporate identity. In expensive trim levels, the headlights will be fully LED, each light module in them consists of 16 LED elements.
Interior design partially overlaps with the interior of the latest generation Opel Astra. The multimedia system is integrated with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto software systems. The new Insignia also has windshield projection and heating, heated all seats, power front seats with memory settings, ventilation and a massager in the front seats. The second-generation Insignia will also be equipped with a reversing blind-spot monitoring system that can see objects at a distance of 20 m, an accident prevention system and adaptive cruise control.
According to preliminary data, Opel Insignia will be equipped with 4-cylinder turbocharged engines. Gasoline will have a volume of 1.5 and 2.0 liters and a power of 163 and 247 hp. respectively. The range of diesel engines will consist of engines of 1.6 and 2.0 liters (power not disclosed). Basic versions will retain a manual transmission, and for a surcharge they will offer an 8-speed "automatic" instead of the previous 6-speed one. A new all-wheel drive system is also planned.
The official presentation of the car will take place in March 2017 at the international motor show in Geneva. The Insignia will be sold not only in Europe (under the Vauxhall brand for the UK), but also in the US and Australia, where it will be offered under the names Buick Regal and Holden Commodore, respectively.
