New Honda Accord: hybrid setup and sporty design

Honda

On the evening of November 10, Honda Motor held the world premiere of the new eleventh generation Accord.

Sedans in recent years are rapidly losing ground in the market to crossovers. But the Accord is still in demand in the US and is second only to the Toyota Camry in its midsize class. That's why Honda didn't even think about ending the Accord story in its North American incarnation.

The exterior of the novelty, the designers set a sporty mood - here is a dynamic profile with an elongated "nose" and a falling back, narrowed headlights, a wide radiator grille and a solid horizontal lamps.

The overall length, width, height of the Accord XI are 4971, 1862 and 1450 mm, respectively, the wheelbase is 2830 mm. The novelty is longer than its predecessor by 69 mm and wider by 2 mm, the rest of the parameters are the same. And this is no coincidence - the design is based on an improved predecessor platform. Most of the load-bearing frame panels were inherited, but struts, reinforcements and additional welding points were added, resulting in higher body rigidity, improved handling and smoothness. All suspensions are independent: front - MacPherson strut, rear - "multi-link".

In the basic configuration, the car has a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine with 192 hp. and a torque of 260 Nm. It is combined with a stepless variator.

A step up is the hybrid setup, made up of a 2.0-liter gasoline engine and two electric units. Total power - 204 hp, torque - 335 Nm. This system is characterized by its flexible nature and low fuel consumption.

In all cases, the drive is front.

The basic equipment of the sedan, among other things, includes a digital instrument panel with a diagonal of 10.2 inches and a media system with a 7-inch screen. For an extra charge - a media display increased to 12.3 inches in size. The complex is now updated "over the air".

High-priced versions of the new Accord have ventilated front seats, a head-up display, wireless smartphone charging, a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system, and more.

Improved preventive safety system Honda Sensing. The field of view of the camera included in it is expanded by 90 degrees. The range of sensors for monitoring "blind" zones has been increased to 25 meters. Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assist are now smoother and more predictable.

Production of the new Honda Accord will take place at the Honda plant in Ohio, USA.

The outgoing Honda Accord, the 10th generation, has been released since 2018.
