Honda Motor has announced the upcoming reorganization of its factories in the United States - this is due to the intention to establish a mass production of electric vehicles.
The mid-size Accord sedan will be evicted from its Marysville, Ohio, plant by 2025 to a less productive site in Indiana.
Honda has already invested $700 million in the modernization of enterprises in Ohio for the production of electric vehicles. Automobile plants in Marysville and East Liberty are concentrated there, as well as an engine plant in Anna. Two lines in Marysville are currently producing ICE vehicles, and will be merged from January 2024, with a second line dedicated to electric cars.
Gasoline V6 production in Anna will be gradually moved to a plant in Alabama. The freed up space will be occupied by the manufacture of control units and batteries for electric vehicles. South Korean LG Energy Solutions is involved in the project.
Surplus space at the transmission plant in Georgia will be loaded with the production of electric axles.
