Honda Motor has been introducing novelties from a cornucopia in recent months. On the evening of November 7, the company showed a full-size Pilot crossover of the new (fourth) generation.
Since the target market for the Pilot is traditionally North America, the appearance of the next generation car was completely developed in the California design studio Honda. The exterior of the car is characterized by a pronounced two-volume profile, a large radiator grille with large honeycombs and an unusual solution for the side windows of the trunk (they are separated from the rest of the window line).
The overall length of the novelty is 5026 mm, which is 86 mm longer than that of the outgoing crossover. Wheelbase length - 2890 mm, wheel diameter - from R18 to R20.
In the base configuration, the new Pilot is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 petrol with 285 hp. and a torque of 355 Nm. This is a new engine, it has an alloy cylinder block, low-profile heads, and 35-degree valves. It is noted that in this motor, relatively old, the number of parts is reduced, it is characterized by increased efficiency and reliability. The engine is aggregated with a 10-speed automatic transmission (the previous Pilot had a 9-band one).
The car is based on a completely new platform that will also be used for the next generations of the Ridgeline pickup truck and the Passport crossover. This chassis has 60% more rigidity at the front and 30% more at the rear. The front and rear tracks have been widened (by 2.8 and 3.8 cm, respectively). The front suspension is made according to the MacPherson scheme, the rear has a multi-link design.
The i-VTM4 all-wheel drive system allows you to transfer up to 70% of the torque to the rear axle and - when driving off-road - up to 100% to the wheels of one of the parties. It is possible to tow trailers weighing up to 2268 kg.
The interior of the crossover is arranged in three rows, there are eight seats, the scheme is 2 + 3 + 3, the trunk volume is from 635 liters in normal condition and up to 3219 liters - with the seats of both rear rows folded down. The basic equipment of the car, among other things, includes eight airbags (including knee airbags for the driver and front passenger), a 10.2-inch digital instrument panel, a media system with a 9-inch screen and a preventive safety complex based on data from a 90-degree video camera and radar with a coverage area of 120 degrees. The automatic emergency braking system effectively recognizes obstacles, including pedestrians and cyclists, at night it works no worse than during the day. For a surcharge, they will offer a premium Bose audio system with 12 speakers and a subwoofer.
In addition to the standard version of the crossover, the TrailSport option will be offered, the feature of which is the best preparation for off-road driving. There is an increased ground clearance of 2.5 cm, improved angles of entry, exit and ramps. Reinforced anti-roll bars are used. The TrailSport comes standard with TerrainContact AT (265/60R18) off-road tires, all-weather floor mats and a camera system to help with off-road driving.
The production of the new generation Honda Pilot is deployed at the concern's plant in Alabama (USA), sales will start in 2023.
The outgoing model has been produced since 2016.
