Ford to massively cut the staff of another plant in Europe

Ford

Ford Motor continues the painful process of reorganizing its business that began several years ago. The company announced the imminent dismissal of 1144 employees of the only plant in Spain (it is located near Valencia in the town of Almussafes).

The concern explains this decision by the need for financial recovery of its activities in Europe and the upcoming transition to the mass production of electric vehicles, which should be completed by 2026. The leadership of the "Ford" will face difficult negotiations with the Spanish trade unions, says El Pais.

So far, the plant in Almusafes employs 5,800 people. They produce about 1,100 vehicles per day: about 600 Kuga crossovers, 300 Transit vans, as well as S-Max and Galaxy minivans. The assembly of the last two models will stop in April.

In 2022, the European Commission agreed to a full transition to electric vehicles by 2035. In the countries of the European Union (EU), the sale and registration of new vehicles with internal combustion engines will be prohibited.

The largest automakers are forced to fundamentally restructure their activities in Europe, although they do not exclude that they will continue to produce cars with internal combustion engines - but only for export outside the EU.
