On May 5, Ford Motor unveiled a new version of the Explorer's full-size crossover, the Timberline. She received improvements for more confident off-road driving and small changes in appearance. In addition, this is the first model of the manufacturer with such a nameplate: in the future, the company will release a whole line of specially modified cars under the Timberline sub-brand.
Timberline can be translated as "forest border". All official photos of the crossover are taken surrounded by trees, as the company emphasizes that this Explorer is adapted for outings into nature.
The novelty has a Torsen limited slip rear differential. The proprietary Terrain Management System offers a choice of seven modes of all-wheel drive transmission for different types of surfaces.
The new suspension components are borrowed from the police Explorer Interceptor - these are reinforced shock absorbers, springs and anti-roll bars. And taking into account the high-profile Bridgestone Dueler P265 / 65 R18 rubber, the ground clearance has increased to 221 mm.
Explorer Timberline is equipped with a standard 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo engine (304 hp and 420 Nm) and a 10-speed "automatic".
Changes in appearance are also aimed at increasing practicality. The original bumpers helped to increase the angle of entry to 23.5 degrees, exit - up to 23.7. Ahead, PTF and additional LED DRLs appeared, as well as a radiator grille in Carbonized Gray color. A coupling device is provided at the rear, allowing you to pull trailers weighing up to 2.4 tons.
Standard equipment includes the Co-Pilot360 and Co-Pilot360 Assist+ systems to help the driver relax while driving on the track. They monitor the distance, markings and obstacles.
Following the Explorer, some Ford models will also receive a Timberline finish.
The new version of the crossover will reach American dealers in the summer.
