Electric Ford Mustang Mach-E began to be used as a patrol car

Ford

The Ford Mustang Mach-E electric crossover has joined the NYPD patrol car fleet. A special car based on a fashionable crossover was presented at the international motor show, which is currently taking place in this metropolis.

The decision to purchase the Mustang Mach-E is purely political, as the New York City Police Department (NYPD) is demonstrating its desire to reduce its fleet's CO2 emissions. This initiative has been implemented for several years, since 2020 the NYPD has been massively purchasing cars with hybrid power plants, in 2021 it first purchased a Tesla Model 3 patrol electric car.

Police Mach-E is equipped with two motors with a combined power of 358 kW (480 hp) and a torque of 860 Nm. The cruising range on a single battery charge for a civilian crossover reaches 435 km, but for a police car it is slightly less due to additional equipment and more weight.

The special preparation of the car includes a departmental body livery, flashing beacons on the roof, sirens, as well as armored panels in the front doors and loopholes in the front windows.

Until the summer of 2022, the NYPD will purchase 100 of these Mustang Mach-Es.

In 2021, Ford Motor developed a patrol car based on the Mach-E with right-hand drive - they wanted to interest British law enforcement officers with this car.
