Electric Ford E-Transit with a range of 200 km was introduced in the USA

Ford has unveiled the E-Transit, an electric version of its popular Transit cargo van. The first shipments of such machines to customers in America and the European Union are scheduled for the end of 2021.

E-Transit will be offered in many different modifications. Buyers will be able to choose among three lengths and three heights. Plus, the car will be sold both with an all-metal body and as a “bare chassis” for a superstructure. Depending on the configuration, the carrying capacity of the van will be from 1470 to 1724 kg.

The E-Transit has an electric motor (power - 269 hp, torque - 429 Nm) and a battery with a capacity of 69 kWh. The range on a single charge according to the EPA method is 202 km for a van with a low roof. It is noteworthy that for European models in the WLTP cycle they planned as much as 350 km, that is, almost twice as much. This speaks eloquently about which of the testing standards is closer to reality, and which overestimates the performance (and this is not yet about the outdated European NEDC).

At first glance, a 69kWh battery might seem modest for a cargo van, as even conventional electric passenger cars boast more capacity. However, before developing the E-Transit, Ford analyzed data from 30 million miles of real road history of their customers' Transit vans. It turned out that the average daily mileage of the Ford Transit was only 76 miles (122 km).

E-Transit supports both AC and DC charging. The built-in 11.3 kW charger allows you to cope with this in eight hours, but if you connect to a 115 kW station, then the battery will be replenished from 15 to 80% in 34 minutes.

The base price of an E-Transit in the US will not exceed $45,000. Today, a regular Transit with a single-row cab, a bare frame and a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 costs $30,635 in America. The van is estimated at a minimum of $34,510. There are no prices for Europe yet.

It should be noted that the Russian electric GAZelle e-NN launched into pilot production in the summer, according to the declared characteristics, is not much worse (and in some places even better) than the e-Transit: power - 136 hp, torque - 310 Nm, power reserve on one charging - 120-200 km (depending on battery capacity), carrying capacity - up to 2.5 tons.
