Volvo will completely abandon diesel engines

Volvo

Volvo will stop producing diesel versions of its models in the future. The only options for power plants will remain gasoline engines and hybrids. About it writes the publication Auto Express.

Volvo's first car to try out diesels will be the next-generation S60 sedan. The car will be shown in the coming weeks, and it will not have a diesel engine - only gasoline or a hybrid.

It is noteworthy that the S60 is built on the current Volvo platform called SPA, known for all modern models of the brand, which so far have diesels. The heavy-fuel engine is one of the equipment options for the recent XC40 crossover and V60 station wagon.

The company does not intend to develop a new generation of diesel engines. Moreover, over time, there will be no cars with only one internal combustion engine in the Volvo model range - by 2019, it is planned to fully electrify the model range, so far by offering hybrid modifications. But this is not the end - subsequently, the Swedish automaker wants to completely switch to the production of electric vehicles.

We add that the new policy of Volvo is contrary to the ideas of some competitors. For example, Mercedes-Benz intends to produce diesel-hybrid power plants - the first such system will appear on the updated C-Class.

In addition, the day before, Bosch announced a breakthrough in the field of cleaning the exhaust of diesel engines, but how this development will affect the market is not reported. Recently, interest in diesel engines in Europe, the largest territory in terms of demand for them, has been systematically falling.
