Volvo and Geely have released a new crossover joint development

Volvo

The Swedish-Chinese company Polestar (a joint venture of Volvo Cars and Geely) presented a fundamentally new model for it on the evening of October 12 - the mid-size electric crossover Polestar 3.

The machine is built on a platform that, in principle, does not involve the use of an internal combustion engine. The wheelbase is 2985 mm, the overall length is 4900 mm, the width is 2120 mm. The novelty will compete in the market with the German electric vehicles Audi e-tron (4.9 m) and BMW iX (4.95 m).

The exterior of the Polestar 3 is made in a minimalist way - “clean” sidewalls, retractable door handles, headlights in the corporate style of “Thor’s hammer” attract attention. The body is optimized in terms of aerodynamics - the drag coefficient is 0.29 (this is at the level of sports cars). The standard wheel size is 21 inches.

The crossover is equipped with two electric motors and all-wheel drive. The total output is 360 kW (490 hp), the torque is 840 Nm. With a curb weight of 2.5 tons, the crossover accelerates fr om 0 to 100 km/h in 5 seconds and has a top speed of 210 km/h. The 111 kWh lithium-ion battery provides a range of up to 610 km on one full charge. Polestar notes that the batteries can be charged at up to 250kW, which can go from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes.

For a surcharge, an optional Performance package will be offered, with which power is increased to 380 kW (517 hp), torque is up to 910 Nm, and acceleration from standstill to 100 km / h is reduced to 4.7 seconds. This optional kit includes oversized wheels (22 inches). True, the power reserve due to a more powerful engine drops to 435 km.

The interior is trimmed with environmentally friendly materials - artificial leather and natural wool are used in the upholstery. Before the driver's eyes is a small digital instrument panel, a vertical screen of the media system with a diagonal of 14.5 inches is built into the central part of the front panel. Numerous assistance functions and the autonomous driving complex are controlled by a high-performance Nvidia Drive computer.

The trunk of a car in its normal state can hold up to 484 liters of luggage, with the rear seats folded down - up to 1411. There are five seats in the cabin, a three-row layout is not provided in principle.

The novelty will be produced in parallel in two places - in China and the United States. American-built cars will be sold only in North America, while Chinese-built cars will be delivered to other markets wh ere Polestar operates.

The release of the model to the markets of China and Western countries is scheduled for autumn 2023.
