The Swedish brand Volvo, owned by the Chinese company Geely Automobile Holdings, has introduced a restyled version of the XC90 crossover. The car was updated not only visually, but also technically.

The restyled version of the flagship crossover differs from the pre-styling one in the front bumper, the lower part of which is distinguished by a bend in the central section, enlarged air intakes, and a new radiator grille. But the shape of the front optics has not changed, although it cannot be ruled out that its graphics have been updated. At the rear of the crossover, the shape of the exhaust "cans" has changed: now they are quadrangular. Also, the graphics design of the rear lights, as well as rims, was updated, new body colors were added (however, it is not specified which ones).

In addition to the four-seater and seven-seater modifications, a six-seater configuration appeared in the range of the car. The multimedia system was supplemented with support for Android Auto (the pre-styling model received support for this protocol far from immediately), and the list of finishing materials has also expanded. It is noteworthy that wool is listed among them.

The characteristics of all updated Volvo engines are in no hurry to disclose, however, the company nevertheless reported that its gasoline engines for the first time received a KERS energy recovery system (a system similar in concept is used in Formula 1 cars), which improves fuel efficiency by approximately 15%, and marking engines with a mild hybrid will start with a "B" instead of a "T". Recall that the pre-styling crossover is equipped with uprated 2.0-liter gasoline engines, which have several specifications. The T5 version develops 250 hp, the T6 310 hp, and as for the plug-in hybrid version (T8), its power before the update was 400 hp. The T8 received a 20hp boost after the update and will now be available on the S60 and XC60 models. As for the D5 heavy fuel unit, which received the B5 index after the acquisition of the starter-generator, its power has not yet been published, however, as well as the power of the B6 and T6 units, but it is unlikely that it will change significantly.

By the way, the use of energy recovery technology has led to the fact that the car has a brake system concept similar to Formula 1 cars: the brake pedal of the crossover is now electronic.

As for active and passive safety systems, the XC90 model received the City Safety and Blind Spot Information System systems. The first of the two systems recognizes pedestrians, cyclists and large animals, the second warns the driver when objects appear in the “blind” zones for the mirrors. Also available will be the Oncoming Lane Mitigation system, which keeps the lane, and was first introduced in the XC60, as well as the Cross Traffic Alert collision avoidance system with automatic braking function.

Production of the facelifted XC90 will begin in May at Volvo Cars' Torslanda plant.
