Suzuki will make a five-door version of the Jimny

Suzuki

Suzuki Motor will release an elongated five-door modification of the Jimny frame subcompact SUV. It will be produced not in Japan, but in India, it will also become the target market for such a version.

According to Indian media, the wheelbase of the five-door Jimny will be about 2.5 m, the overall length is 3.9 m (in India, cars up to 4 m are subject to transport tax at a reduced rate). In other words, relative to the basic three-door, the base will be increased by 25 cm, body length - by 35 cm. No differences are expected in terms of units, that is, they plan to equip the five-door SUV with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine (102 hp), 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. Drive — plug-in full.

It is assumed that the presentation of the five-door Jimny will take place in the second half of 2021.

Suzuki Jimny of the current, fourth generation was released in the summer of 2018. In its native Japan, the model is offered in two gasoline versions - with a R06 turbo engine (0.66 l, 64 hp) and a K15B "aspirated" (1.5 l, 102 hp). Both engines are combined with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-band "automatic". A model with a larger engine in Japan is traditionally called Jimny Sierra.

Earlier it was reported that Suzuki launched the production of the three-door Jimny at the facilities of its subsidiary in India (Maruti Suzuki). In this market, the model replaced the Jimny / Samurai SJ40, which Maruti Suzuki produced in 1985-2019. Indian-made Jimnys will also be shipped to Africa and Latin America.
