Suzuki Motor is preparing for the production of a five-door modification of the Jimny frame SUV, the release of this version will be launched in India, at the plant of the local branch of the Japanese company - Maruti Suzuki. According to Autocar India, work on putting the stretched Jimny on the assembly line began in October 2022, they are being carried out at the Maruti Suzuki site in the city of Arayana, where the three-door version of the SUV is being produced since 2020 in specifications for India, the Middle East and Africa.
To modernize and expand capacity, it was necessary to temporarily freeze the production of a standard modification of the model. Apparently, production of the five-door Jimny in India will begin earlier than in Japan - Suzuki sees this South Asian country as the main market for the upcoming new product. Commodity samples of the “five-door” will begin to roll off the assembly line of the plant in Arayan from April 2023, it will go on sale next summer. It is assumed that at the peak, 5000-6000 elongated SUVs will be produced monthly.
According to preliminary information, from nose to tail, the five-door Jimny is 30 cm longer than the global version of the standard model, that is, its overall length is approximately 3.95 m, and the wheelbase is 2.55 m.
Simultaneously with the advent of the five-door version, a hybrid Jimny with a turbocharged internal combustion engine is expected to be released. It will have lower emissions of harmful substances relative to the current 1.5-liter "aspirated", which, we recall, in the European Union did not pass the requirements for limiting toxicity for passenger cars.
In January 2022, a show car was presented at the Tokyo Motor Show in the form of a five-door Jimny, but it was a student work of the Nihon Automotive Technology School (NATS), which has nothing to do with Suzuki Motor.
