Smart Unveils #1 Compact Electric Crossover

Smart

Smart, which is today a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely, has unveiled the first electric crossover under its own brand - #1 (yes, that's the name).

The car is designed in the spirit of last year's concept car of the same name. The overall length is 4270 mm, the wheelbase is 2750 mm, that is, by the standards of Smart, which previously specialized in subcompacts, this is an unusually large model. Its curb weight is 1820 kg (electric vehicles are heavier than analogues with internal combustion engines).

#1 has a five-door two-volume body with a pronounced hood. The exterior is dominated by smooth lines and curves. The effect of a floating roof and frameless doors are used. The maximum landing diameter of wheels is 19 inches.

The interior features leather trim and ambient lighting. A 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system is installed in the center of the front panel in the manner of a tablet, a 9.2-inch screen plays the role of the instrument panel.

Smart #1 is built on the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform developed by Geely, the first model based on it was the Zeekr 001 electric sports wagon, released in 2021.

The crossover will be produced in several modifications. First, a rear-wheel drive will enter the market, with one electric motor with a capacity of 272 hp. (200 kW) and lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt-oxide traction battery with a capacity of 66 kWh. A full charge is enough for 440 km. The maximum speed is 180 km/h. The battery operates at a voltage of 400 V, charging is supported from stations with a power of up to 150 kW.

In the future, all-wheel drive versions will appear, as well as alternative battery options.

Smart #1 will be produced in China, sales will also begin there, then the train will reach Europe. Dates and prices are yet to be announced.

Recall that Smart dreamed of its crossover back in the zero years - in 2005, the company presented a demonstration sample of the compact Smart Formore, which did not go into production.
