Skoda showed Octavia with beet waste interior

Skoda

Škoda Auto's development department, in cooperation with the Technical University of Liberec, Czech Republic, has created two environmentally friendly and at the same time wear-resistant materials for car interiors. The first is based on sugar beet pulp, the second - on the cane plant miscanthus. The company showed its new developments on the example of the interior of a demonstrator car based on Octavia.

The material based on sugar beet pulp is suitable for decorative inserts in the front panel and door cards (the color of the inserts can be changed). Skoda has already applied for a patent for this product. The company receives raw materials from agricultural enterprises in the city of Dobrovice, which is located near the main car factory in Mladá Boleslav. Thus, CO2 emissions during the production process are minimized.

The second finishing material from the reed plant miscanthus is intended for the manufacture of upholstery elements. The fibers are processed and used, for example, for door cards.

Skoda plans to use new developments in its future models.

The company also recalls that the material of the seat covers of the serial Skoda Enyaq electric car in the Lodge version is 30% 100% wool and 70% recycled PET bottles, and the cognac-colored leather is covered with olive leaf extract.
