Skoda has developed an application for diagnosing problems with the car by the sound of the engine

Skoda

Skoda has developed a mobile application that can diagnose the condition of the engine by the sound of its operation. To do this, you just need to bring the smartphone to the car with the hood open.

An app called Sound Analyzer records sound while the engine is running. It then converts the recorded audio file into a spectrogram, which is a visual representation of the acoustic signals. And then, using artificial intelligence, it compares the file with the saved records to identify deviations. If something is wrong, the app will notify technicians and tell them where to look for problems with over 90% accuracy.

According to the Czech company, the program can recognize ten sound patterns, including those for the steering system, air conditioning compressor and clutch in a DSG robotic transmission.

Skoda tested the app in a pilot project in 14 countries with 245 dealers.

The company decided not to stop there. It is considering incorporating such technology into the vehicle itself, which will be able to self-diagnose using sensors and send information about possible malfunctions directly to the dealer or manufacturer.
