Nissan unveils what a 1964 Silvia would look like as a modern electric car

Matthew Weaver, Vice President of Design for Nissan Motor Europe, showed in sketches what a reincarnation of the classic 1964 Nissan Silvia CSP311 could look like, made on a state-of-the-art technological level and on a purely electric platform.

Silvia CSP311 is considered one of the iconic models of Nissan, this coupe is the ancestor of the Silvia line. It was built on a rear-wheel drive platform unified with the Datsun Fairlady 1600 SP311 and was produced with a high proportion of manual labor. That's why only 554 Silvia CSP311s were assembled in three years of production.

When rethinking the image of the first Silvia, Matthew Weaver kept its elegant and easy-to-perceive silhouette, but made the surfaces even more “clean”, and the lines more accurately coordinated with each other.

“Silvia was ahead of her time, distinguished by calmness and restraint. The car was solid and would look good on today's roads. It is also a great example of what is expected fr om a global product: high quality and universal appeal,” says Weaver.

The use of an electric platform will allow you to fully reveal the style decisions of the first Silvia. So, you can abandon the grille between the headlights and make the front design more concise.

“Because it’s an electric vehicle, we were able to move the clean lines to the front as the electric drive has much lower cooling requirements and no grille is needed wh ere radiators would normally be,” adds Nissan’s vice president of design. Europe.

The original Silvia CSP311 was equipped with a 96-horsepower 1.6-liter gasoline engine (estimate the specific power by the standards of the 60s), a four-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive.

Nissan has no plans to produce a similar electric vehicle in the style of the Nissan Silvia CSP311. This project is designed to draw public attention to the company's new strategy for the electrification of the model range.
