Nissan Serena in the new generation received a spectacular design and improved engines

Nissan Motor held the world premiere of the new (sixth) generation of the mid-size Serena van.

The overall length, width and height of the new Serena are 4690, 1695 and 1870 mm, respectively, the wheelbase is 2870 mm. Relative to the car of the outgoing sample, the novelty is 5 mm longer, 5 mm higher and has a 10 mm greater distance between the axles of the wheels.

Minimal changes in dimensions are not accidental - the design of the new generation van is based on the modernized supporting frame of the predecessor, the cars have unified a significant part of the internal body panels.

The design of the sixth Serena can be described as an evolutionary development of the ideas of the fifth generation van. The one-volume body shape, large triangular windows in the A-pillars and vertical lamps inscribed in a single composition with the rear window have been preserved. However, the design of the front has become more futuristic - the radiator grille and headlights form a visually integral composition. The full-LED headlights are L-shaped, with chrome piping continuing the grille slats. The upper sections of the front fenders are painted in black lacquer and thus stylistically unite the headlights and the glazing line.

In the cabin, the driver's legroom has been increased by 120 mm compared to its predecessor - this makes the landing more comfortable and free. The third-row seats are already longitudinally adjustable as standard. The cabin capacity is eight seats, but there is also a seven-seat version with separate luxury seats on the second row.

The tailgate remained double - you can raise it either entirely or only the upper section (this is in demand in tight parking lots).

Each place is complemented by a compartment for storing small items, such as smartphones and wallets. In the cabin there is also an opportunity to organize a Wi-Fi point for distributing wireless Internet to all passengers.

The new generation Nissan Serena will be offered in both petrol and hybrid versions. The base version has a 2.0-liter MR20DD petrol engine with 150 hp, it is combined with a CVT, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The hybrid version is equipped with the e-Power system, which works in series. It has a 1.4-liter HR14DDe gasoline engine with 98 hp. Match with EM57 electric motor, lithium-ion battery, generator and inverter. The internal combustion engine in e-Power is not directly connected to the wheels, but is used to recharge the battery via a generator, which in turn feeds the traction motor. Traction motor power - 120 kW (163 hp), torque - 315 Nm. The hybrid has only a front-wheel drive layout.

The new Nissan Serena comes standard with the ProPilot 2.0 semi-autopilot system. It works in conjunction with the navigator and can drive the car on suburban highways in a fully automatic mode, allowing the driver to take their hands off the steering wheel. You can write a parking space into the system memory - the car will occupy it on its own, while driving out of there on its own. The remote parking feature is extremely relevant for Japanese metropolitan areas with their narrow driveways and cramped courtyards.

Engineers have made the suspension of the new Serena slightly stiffer than its predecessor. At the same time, the seat was equipped with additional shock absorption and increased the level of noise and vibration isolation. It is argued that passengers, even on long trips, will not experience seasickness.

The efficiency of the e-Pedal function has been improved in the hybrid transmission - recall that it allows you to control both acceleration and deceleration with the accelerator pedal: press it - the car starts, release it - the brakes are automatically applied (the brake lights are lit).

In the domestic Japanese market, sales of the sixth generation Nissan Serena will start in December. The first will be a modification with a 2.0 engine and front-wheel drive. e-Power is expected in spring 2023. All-wheel drive versions will appear in late spring - early summer.

The price of a petrol van is from 2,768,700 to 3,269,200 yen, a hybrid one is from 3,198,800 to 4,798,200 yen.
