Nissan Motor has taken out a 200 billion yen ($1.44 billion) loan to expand mass-market electric vehicles. The loan was provided by a consortium of Japanese financial institutions led by Mizuho Bank.
The automaker did not disclose which projects will be financed with borrowed funds. To date, the Japanese have focused on developing next-generation electric vehicles and traction batteries, autonomous driving systems and charging infrastructure.
Nissan was one of the pioneers in the popularization of electric vehicles - the company's range now includes four mass-produced cars of this type: the Leaf hatchback, the Ariya crossover, the Townstar EV van (a copy of the Renault Kangoo E-Tech Electric), and the Sakura kei car.
