Nissan may still use the Datsun brand, but in a new format

Nissan

Nissan Motor has not yet decided what to do with the recently euthanized Datsun marque - discussions are underway in the company's marketing division on this issue. One of the options being discussed is to reuse the Datsun trademark, but not for cars with internal combustion engines, but for electric vehicles, and inexpensive ones created specifically for developing countries, Automotive News writes, citing its sources at the Japanese automaker.

If a positive decision is made, the Datsun electric car will be released in 2024 and will be based on the Dacia Spring / Renault City K-ZE subcompact crossover produced since 2021 - it is one of the cheapest electric vehicles in the world, in the European Union it costs from 16,990 euros (=1,255,000 rubles).

Recall that at the end of April, Nissan removed the last Datsun produced from the assembly line - it was the “Indian” Redi-Go subcompact hatchback.

The Datsun brand is historical, was originally founded in 1914 and lasted until 1986.
