Nissan Motor, together with the Faculty of Biochemistry of the National University in Tohoku (Japan), is developing a technology for polymeric covering materials that neutralize viruses. They will be used in the cabin filters of Nissan vehicles.
The technology is primarily aimed at suppressing strains of COVID-19 and has already been shown to be effective against the Omicron strain in the laboratory. The principle of the antiviral action of the polymer is to use the catalytic properties of nitroxyl radicals to destroy the spike proteins of viruses, thus preventing their capture by body cells.
Nissan sees the future of technology also in action against fungi and bacteria, which could be implemented in a new generation of cabin filters.
