Mercedes-Benz unveils a road car powered by a Formula 1 car

Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the production version of the AMG One central-engined supercar – outwardly, it repeats the 2017 concept car of the same name. This car uses an engine from a Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 car.

AMG One is equipped with a parallel hybrid power plant, the total power is 1049 hp. It includes a 1.6-liter gasoline V6 with an electric turbine, two electric motors on the front axle (one per wheel), one on the crankshaft and one inside the turbocharger (for a total of four electric motors). The internal combustion engine has four camshafts and direct injection, it separately develops 566 hp. and can spin up to 11,000 rpm. The front electric motors put out a total of 322 hp, the crankshaft unit adds another 161 hp, and the turbocharger inside adds 121 hp.

The rear axle is equipped with a 7-speed manual transmission with differential lock, while the front axle is driven exclusively by electric motors.

The recovery system is highly efficient - it replenishes up to 80% of energy. The capacity of the lithium-ion battery is 8.4 kWh. On pure electric power, the supercar can travel up to 18.1 km. Batteries can also be recharged from an external network.

The curb weight of the Mercedes-Benz AMG One is 1695 kg, the maximum speed is 350 km/h, acceleration from standstill to 100 km/h takes 2.9 seconds, to 200 km/h in 7 seconds.

The load-bearing structure of the body is a carbon-fiber monocoque, to which the front and rear aluminum subframes are attached. The outer panels are also molded from carbon fiber. The shock absorber struts on both axles are set at an angle close to the horizontal, across the movement (this made it possible to abandon the anti-roll bars). The suspension uses five aluminum arms. The stiffness of the suspension can be adjusted - "comfort", "sport" and "sport +" modes are pre-installed.

Also of note are magnesium forged wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes.

Enormous efforts were made by the engineers of the German company to adapt the units from the F-1 for everyday use, including increasing their reliability.

Mercedes-AMG plans to build 275 of these supercars at a cost of $2.72 million each. It is alleged that they are all sold in advance.
