Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the Vision AMG Concept electric sports car, which sheds light on the design of future Mercedes-AMG models.
“With this work, we offer a look at how the DNA of the AMG brand will change when it moves to the production of pure electric vehicles - this will start from 2025,” said Philipp Schheimer, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.
Vision AMG is a running model, which is built on the new AMG.EA platform, which, in principle, does not provide for the use of internal combustion engines. Electric motors for this base were created by the British company YASA, which is part of the German concern. The characteristics are not specified, but Mercedes-Benz emphasizes that the performance of these units is significantly higher than that of the average electric vehicle engines.
However, Vision AMG is primarily a design and style exercise. The car has a four-door sedan body with a squat and horizontally elongated profile. The drop-down teardrop-shaped roof flows into a lowered rear. Engineers and designers sought to create the most streamlined body, since energy efficiency is especially important for an electric vehicle, because savings on drag overcoming allow you to install a less heavy traction battery without compromising range.
The headlights are divided into three segments that rhyme with the three-pointed star logo, the taillights are classic, round.
Since the electric car does not need a traditional grille, the concept has an imitation installed in its place.
The side windows are made together with the door panels and covered with transparent paint - this way an unusual monolithic image is set.
An active spoiler is installed at the rear of the car.
Mercedes-Benz says the Vision AMG was inspired by Mercedes Formula One cars.
The interior of the concept car was not revealed.
