Toyota Motor has officially announced that due to the ongoing shortage of semiconductors, it is forced to save on smart keys for cars. Some models of cars will be handed over to customers with a set of "one smart key + one mechanical key", before buyers received two electronic keys. Spare electronic components will be handed over to customers later - as soon as they are ready.
The restriction applies to cars for the Japanese domestic market, which will be released in January 2023. The affected models are Crown, Prius, bZ4X, RAV4 (PHEV), Harrier, Noah, Voxy and Land Cruiser. In the Lexus range, these are LX, RX and NX.
