Lexus RX in the new generation received a spectacular design

Lexus

Lexus, the premium brand of Toyota, held the world premiere of the next, fifth generation mid-size crossover RX (code - AL30).

The novelty is built on a modified version of the TNGA GA-K modular platform and has a body designed from scratch. Especially for the crossover, they created a new multi-link rear suspension with particularly strong attachments to the subframe.

The overall length, width and height of the Lexus RX AL30 are 4890, 1920 and 1695 mm respectively, the wheelbase is 2850 mm. Compared to the outgoing model AL20, the length has not changed, but the width has increased by 25 mm, and the height by 10 mm. The distance between the axles has increased by 60 mm - thus, it was possible to increase the space in the cabin for passengers.

The exterior is made in the new corporate style of the Lexus brand - the company's press service emphasizes that the designers sought to give the car a light and elegant look. A squat two-volume shape, a swift profile with a drop-down roof, “minimalistic” sidewalls and an unusual radiator grille with false honeycombs in the upper part work for this feeling. The body is carefully designed in terms of streamlining.

In the cabin, the digital instrument panel, the media system screen and the left ventilation deflector are made as a single visual unit that protrudes relative to the front panel. Diagonal multimedia screen - 14 inches.

The internal length of the luggage compartment has increased by 50 mm relative to its predecessor - this was achieved due to the less thick upholstery of the tailgate. Loading height reduced by 30 mm. The compartment can carry four suitcases with a volume of 77 liters each or four 9.5-inch golf bags, the press release emphasizes.

The body of the previous RX has become stronger and at the same time lighter by 90 kg. For the first time in the world, a steel sheet of class 2 GPa was used in the central pillar; elements from it are stamped by a hot method. The hood and front fenders were made of rolled aluminum. In the knotting of the elements of the supporting frame, laser screw welding, structural adhesives and traditional spot welding were used.

The car will be produced in four versions: RX350, RX350h, RX450h+ and RX500h. Only the first of them is purely gasoline, the rest are hybrid, and the RX450h + is with the possibility of recharging from the network.

The RX350 is equipped with a 2.4-liter petrol turbo with 275 hp. and a torque of 430 Nm. It is combined with an 8-speed "automatic", front or all-wheel drive.

The RX350h is equipped with a “parallel hybrid” system - a 2.5-liter gasoline engine is combined in it with a CVT and an electric motor, the total power is 249 hp, the torque is 316 Nm. Drive - front or full, in the second case, an electric motor is used on the rear axle (E-Four system).

The RX500h is a Direct4 parallel hybrid with a 2.4-litre petrol engine, 6-speed automatic transmission and a separate electric motor on the rear axle. Total characteristics - 372 hp and 550 Nm, all-wheel drive. This version will only be offered with the F Sport Performance package, which includes an original body kit and special chassis settings. Direct4 automatically distributes torque between the front and rear axles in a ratio of 100:0 to 20:80. "500" combines the dynamics of a sports car (acceleration from standstill to 100 km / h in 6 seconds) and fuel consumption at the level of a family sedan (9.0 l / 100 km).

Specifications for the rechargeable RX450h+ were not disclosed.
