In Europe, Fiat is now mainly known for its 500 city car and crossovers based on it, while in South America the Italians are successfully selling pickups based on passenger models.
Fiat's junior representative in this segment is the Strada, which sells more than 100,000 units a year in South America. The previous generation Strada was based on the Palio model, while the new one was based on the Argo hatchback (FCA MP1 platform), which premiered in May 2017. Externally, the new pickup inherited the style of the older Toro model: Strada has wide headlights with LED elements, a radiator grille with horizontal slats, extended wheel arches, a raised hood, and roof rails. The length of the body of the new generation Fiat Strada reaches 4438 mm, the load capacity is 700 kg.
The Strada is offered for the first time with a four-door cab, later two-door versions are to be added to the line, as well as an intermediate version with "half" rear doors.
Under the hood of a pickup truck, only gasoline engines can be located: the 1.4-liter “aspirated” Firefly with a capacity of 88 hp will remain the base one, the more expensive version received a 1.3-liter unit with 101 hp, and it can run on ethanol. Motors with 5-speed “mechanics” work, in the future Fiat is going to install turbocharged gas engines on models, as well as a variator.
Production of the new Fiat Strada will take place at FCA's Brazilian plant in Betina, Brazil. The cost of the car will be announced later, local dealers will start accepting orders in March.
