Electric Fiat 500 presented: original platform, decent power reserve, "autopilot" like Tesla

Fiat

FIAT has introduced a new all-electric subcompact hatchback 500. The novelty is considered the third generation “500”, but it will not replace the second generation 500, which has been produced since 2007, the cars will be produced in parallel. The "third" FIAT 500 replaced the small-scale electric modification 500e, which appeared in 2013. The new model no longer has the letter “e” in the name, this is emphasized in the press release separately.

The novelty has become the first car in the practice of the FCA concern, created as an electric car from scratch. Outwardly, it is not easy to distinguish it from the old subcompact, but the model simply remained true to its corporate identity. In fact, the body here is completely new, not a single detail in common with the old model. The easiest way to recognize the novelty is by complex, fully LED optics.

The length, width and height of the new FIAT 500 are 3630, 1690 and 1480 mm respectively, the wheelbase is 2320 mm. Relative to the second generation model, the length and width increased by 60 mm, the wheelbase - by 20 mm, and the height decreased by 8 mm.

The new platform features a 42kWh battery versus 24kWh on the old 500e. This made it possible to double the range on a single charge - 320 km instead of 160 km. In urban mode, the FIAT 500, thanks to the 113-horsepower Bosch electric motor, is very dynamic: it accelerates to 100 km/h in 9 seconds, and 50 km/h obeys it in 3 seconds.

Inside, the new FIAT 500 has a 7-inch electronic instrument cluster, as well as a media system with a 10.25-inch screen, leather seats with perforations in the form of the brand name also attract attention.

The electric “cinquecento” (as it is called in its homeland) has modern driver assistance systems: adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, blind spot control and lane keeping and, most importantly, second-level autonomous driving (like Tesla) .

The production of the electric FIAT 500 will be launched by the Italians in Turin (northern Italy), although the old 500 with gasoline and diesel engines will continue to be produced in Poland.

The electric car is priced at 37,500 euros.

FIAT also presented three special versions of the electric 500 at once - with a special stylistic design. Two versions were prepared by fashion houses - Giorgio Armani and Bvlgari, and the third - the manufacturer of especially expensive furniture and lighting equipment Kartell.

The Armani version is distinguished by a gray-green body color with a silk effect, discs in the style of the GA logo. The salon is decorated with natural leather and wood with aluminum inserts, the front console received a bright pattern.

Bvlgari's second FIAT 500 Mai Troppo ("You Can't Get Too Much") is painted "saffron" with "gold powder" from jewelry waste. The discs are made in the form of the Bvlgari symbol, the steering wheel is decorated with three semi-precious stones: amethyst, topaz and citrine.

The third special version of Kartell features a rich blue body color, discs with intricate patterns, and a gray interior.

Special versions of the electric FIAT 500 will be sold at auctions, and the money from the sales will go to the environmental protection organizations that Leonardo DiCaprio oversees.
