The epitome of extreme pickups is the Ford F-150 Raptor. In 2015, the Ram 1500 Rebel (“Rebel”) appeared, but it received improvements only in terms of cross-country ability, but not power and speed. In 2016, Ram introduced the Rebel TRX with a 575-horsepower 6.2-liter supercharged V8, but it was just a concept. Years passed, and Rebel TRX remained an experimental project. And now, four years later, it finally came to the serial model of the same name.

A lot has changed since 2016. Firstly, the generation of the Ram 1500 has changed: a new body was introduced in 2018. Secondly, the output of the 6.2-liter HEMI has been noticeably increased: now it produces 712 hp. and 880 Nm. This makes the Ram 1500 TRX the most powerful production pickup truck on the planet.

The car uses an upgraded 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Acceleration from 0 to 96 km / h (60 mph) is given to Ram in 4.5 seconds, a quarter mile he comes in 12.9 seconds with an exit speed of 174 km / h. "Maximum speed" is relatively modest - 190 km / h.

Despite the impressive dynamics, the Ram 1500 TRX is also well prepared for off-road use. It is fitted with 18" wheels with 35" Goodyear Territory tires specially designed for this model. To accommodate the huge wheels, the truck is 203mm wider thanks to new fenders and pads. Other visual distinguishing features of the novelty are reinforced bumpers, a grille with a large RAM inscription and a humpbacked hood with an air intake into which small marker lights are built (they are echoed by the lights on the bumper).

The Ram 1500 TRX received a 51mm lift, which increased the ground clearance to 300mm. For increased wheel articulation, new forged aluminum upper and lower control arms have been installed. Active damping technology is also applied. The TRX uses 2.5-inch (63mm) adaptive Bilstein Black Hawk e2 shock absorbers that continuously adjust damping forces for optimal control on and off the road.

At the rear, a Dana 60 continuous bridge is installed, which can move up to 330 mm. Engineers say total rear wheel travel has increased by more than 40% over the rest of the Ram 1500. Approach, exit and roll angles are 30.2%, 23.5% and 21.9% respectively. The pickup truck is capable of fording up to 813 mm deep.

Ram 1500 TRX can take on board up to 600 kg of cargo. The mass of the towed trailer reaches 3674 kg.

The price of an extreme pickup truck in the US will start at $71,690 including shipping. The F-150 Raptor is much more affordable: they ask for it from $55,150. On the other hand, its engine power is “only” 456 hp.
